We decided to take a trip back in time this past weekend and visited the Rockefeller estate, Kykuit located in New York’s Hudson Valley. This place is absolutely stunning with amazing gardens containing priceless art sculptures, an ornate mansion and breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Palisades.
John D. Rockefeller had Kykuit built in the early 1900′s. He raised his family here and his grandson Nelson Rockefeller subsequently raised his here as well. The home is now part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and tours are offered there through half of the year.
We weren’t able to take photos inside but these are some that I found online. Can you imagine waking up there everyday?
The art gallery is really cool too – there is a lot of modern art including works by Andy Warhol and Picasso. There are even these massive tapestries painstakingly created in the style of many of Picasso’s famous paintings.
It’s always fun to escape to another time and place and visiting sites such as this are always a real treat for the senses.
