Month: December 2011

Fun-filled Week

Well its been a great Christmas week so far!  The weekend was spent with family, eating too much and opening lots of presents.

Someone's having fun with the wrapping paper

We went to a hockey game on Monday night – the NY Rangers vs. the NY Islanders.  Unfortunately the Islanders lost, but we still had a great time.

Yesterday was spent in Atlantic City – my first trip there.  We stayed at the Chelsea hotel and had a nice dinner at Cuba Libre at the Tropicana.  Unfortunately I didn’t win big but still had a great time with good company.

The week, and 2011 are both coming to an end.  How are you planning on spending the last days of the year?

Five for Friday

Happy Friday!  Today is my last day of work until 2012!  🙂

This week I’m looking forward to:

I can’t wait to celebrate with all of our family, drive around to see the lights, watch Christmas specials, open presents and have a huge serving of my mom’s baked ziti and some struffoli for dessert.

There’s already deals out there but I’m thinking they may be even better after Christmas, so I think a trip to the mall is in order.
OK, my hair hasn’t been cut and styled for months and I need it done desperately. I’m trying a new salon next week. I just found out the owner is friends with Teresa from NJ Housewives – uh oh, should be interesting!!  😉
Atlantic City
I have never been here so I’m looking forward to going and celebrating The Husband’s cousin’s birthday.  Maybe I’ll even win some money!
We’ll be ringing in the New Year at a friend’s house.

Wishing you all a very happy holiday and all the best in 2012.  I have a feeling it’s going to be a great year!

Book of the Month

I’ve been trying to find a book club to join in my area for some time now, but timing and schedules just haven’t worked out for me yet.  So when I saw that a new book club was starting at my local library, I was pleasantly surprised.

The club starts in January and the first selection is Gazelle by Rikki Ducornet.

I just got the book from the library but haven’t started reading yet (I figured Christmas vacation would be a good time to start).  They’re asking everyone who joins to bring a snack to share after the discussion.  It’s a great way to mingle and meet new people.

I’m looking forward to it.  I’ll let you know how it was once I’ve attended.

Have you ever joined a book club or are you reading a good book right now?

C. Wonder (ful)

I’m always looking for new ways to decorate my home. I like creating a mix of old and new, high and low end to create my own personal space. And I’m always on the hunt for fun and interesting pieces, whether it be a vase, tray, lacquer box, coffee table book, and more. That’s why I was happy to learn of the new store C. Wonder.

There are a few locations in New York and I first visited the store last week. I found a lot of cute things that I could easily add to my home. Some of these items include:

Decorative glass plate

Wave lacquer tray

Enamel box

They also have clothing, jewelry, and other items – and it doesn’t hurt that their logo is a “C”, my initial! I don’t know if they have plans to open more stores outside of NY but you can order items online.

Wouldn’t this make a great stocking stuffer?

Coin purse

I was not compensated by C. Wonder but just wanted to share my new find with others. 🙂

Can’t Resist a Great Deal

I have to say – I just love a good deal!  And I was able to get a few this weekend.  I know we’re really close to Christmas, and I’ve already gotten all my shopping done, but that didn’t stop me from taking a trip to the mall.

I knew it would be crowded, but I got there when it opened and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be.  There was a sweater I saw at the Gap a while back but didn’t get.  Now, pretty much the entire mall was on sale yesterday so I went to the Gap – and there was my sweater!  And on sale!  And in my size!  And another 40% off!  😉

I bought this in the dark brown color.  For some reason, this picture is not doing the sweater justice, it’s a lot cuter, longer and cozier in person.

I also had a $10 off coupon at PINK by Victoria Secret – so can you say 50 cent underwear?  😉

And finally, I’ve been looking for new shampoo and conditioner but I wanted to splurge on something fancy to get my hair out of its rut.  I decided to try Redken’s All Soft for dry hair.

The set was originally $23 but with sales and coupons, my entire purchase (including nail polish and lip gloss) came out to $9!  And I tried the All Soft and it worked great!

The other thing that made me really happy this weekend – I found out Nordstrom’s sells almond lattes!  Who knew???

Have you gotten any pre-holiday deals?

Five for Friday

Happy Friday!  We’re just a little over one week til Christmas – which for me means Christmas vacation!  I’ll be off until Jan 3 and I’m really looking forward to some “me” time.  🙂

This week I’m looking forward to the following:

Christmas Party
Today is my office Christmas party.  It’s my first one with the company and I hear everyone gets a turkey – ha!  Guess we’ll be learning how to cook a turkey in the near future.

Dinner with The Husband and my parents at the Milleridge Inn
This is a restaurant whose origins date back to the late 1600’s.  At Christmastime, it gets all decked out and carolers come around to the various dining rooms to serenade guests.  There’s even a small village of shops on the property with everything from a bakery, florist, general store and toy shop.  I love this place!
Watching Home Alone
I haven’t watched this movie in a while, but it always puts me in a good Christmasy mood.  I can remember watching the video in my sixth grade class the day before winter break.
Since I don’t have orchestra rehearsals until after the new year, it frees up my Thursdays and I’m looking forward to taking the Pilates class at my gym.
Gingerbread lattes
I have to end each FFF with this one because soon they will be gone for another year.  😦

Happy Friday!

Christmas is Coming!

Wow – Christmas is getting closer and closer!

I think I’m pretty much set – I’ve bought all the gifts and now just have to wrap them (which is the part I like the least!)

But, it has to get done, so these are some of the songs that will help get me through it:

All I Want for Christmas is You, Mariah Carey

Last Christmas, Wham
Jingle Bells, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass

Dominic the Donkey, Lou Monte

Little Saint Nick, The Beach Boys

Christmas Wrapping, The Waitresses

The entire Andy Williams Christmas Album – my mom had this when I was little (and still does somewhere in their house) – we would play it every year so I just love it to this day!

What are some of your favorite Christmas songs?
