We spent Memorial Day weekend in Newport, RI, went to a wedding and had an overall great time! Traffic wasn’t too kind to us on Friday, but we finally made it up there around 9pm and ventured to the Hotel Viking for a welcome drink hosted by the bride and groom.

Saturday afternoon was spent strolling around Newport, checking out the various shops and relaxing by the water. We had lunch at a nice restaurant called Gas Lamp Grille and then got some fresh iced tea and sat watching all the boats sail by.
Saturday night was the wedding and it was really lovely. The guests were transported to Mount Hope Farm in a trolley and the wedding was held in an old barn with lots of rustic touches.
On Sunday morning, the newlyweds hosted a brunch at the Atlantic Beach Club and afterwards, The Husband and I toured Marble House, one of the famous Newport mansions. The house was in the Vanderbilt family, and its design was based on the Petit Trianon at Versailles. Having visited Versailles this past summer, it was interesting to see the 19th century American take on it. Parts of the movie The Great Gatsby were also filmed at Marble House.

We had a great time in Newport and can’t wait to go on our next adventure!

Wow – I haven’t written a Five for Friday in a while (life got in the way and I’ve been busy), but here’s to looking forward to the coming week!
This weekend will be my last orchestra concert of the season. I can’t believe how quickly it all went – it feels like it was just September. We’re playing 2 versions of Romeo and Juliet (the Prokofiev is my favorite) along with some other pieces. Should be a good time. And I’m also looking forward to going to Dallas BBQ for their onion burger afterwards!!
I really like yoga but haven’t had a chance to do it in a while. A new studio recently opened near me and I’m looking forward to taking a class there this week.
I need to get my toes ready for the summer season before I can go around in open-toed shoes and sandals! So this week I’m treating myself to a mani/pedi, which is something I rarely do.
I’m also looking forward to heading to Newport, RI next Friday. We’re going to a wedding and it will also be nice to get away and relax for a few days, while enjoying some time with friends.
I’m really trying but to be honest, sometimes all I want to eat is pizza! But with all of the great fruit coming into season now, I think I will be doing better at eating a more balanced diet. Can’t wait for peaches, plums, strawberries and fresh watermelon. Yum!
This past weekend was the New Members project at my local Junior League (at which I am a New Member). We put on a community tag sale and had a great turnout. And we couldn’t have asked for better weather – it was beautiful, sunny and warm outside.
We were able to raise over $2,000 for the League’s community initiatives! Any items that didn’t sell on Saturday are being donated to community organizations that will be able to put them to good use. I’m so glad we were able to pull this together and help out some great causes along the way!
Today I’m thinking ahead to summer and its fashions. I live in skirts and dresses in the summer because they’re just so comfortable and keep me cool. This year I’m coveting maxi dresses. I think they’re perfect for a variety of activities – work, brunch, casual gatherings, etc. You can wear them with flats, wedges, heels and the shoes and accessories really help change the look. Here are some of the dresses I can see myself in this summer:
What are some of your favorite summer go-to looks?
Happy May everyone! I can’t believe we’re already in the 5th month of the year and pretty soon it will be Memorial Day. I’m looking forward to that weekend since we’re going to our friends wedding in Newport, RI. So we’ll get to celebrate a wedding and have a mini-vacation at the same time. I went to Newport for the first time last Memorial Day and can’t wait to go back. Here are some images from that trip to tide me over until then:
