Well, you may have picked up on some of my (VERY) cryptic statements in some recent past posts but I am officially announcing that I am pregnant! The Husband and I and our families are very excited, and we expect our little girl (!!!) to arrive sometime around December 8.
I’ve held out with making an official “announcement” for quite a while just because I wanted to make sure everything was going well and on-track. I’m feeling really good now (no more morning sickness or extreme fatigue) and am starting to actually look pregnant.
I will not be turning this blog into post after post about baby-related things, but since I write a lot about my life, expect some posts here and there (but no belly shots for me!)
I’m really excited to get started on the nursery, so I will definitely be showcasing that process in the weeks and months to come. We have a bunch of paint samples and I’ve been scouring Etsy for way too long already!
We couldn’t be happier to be expanding our family come December and are looking forward to this new chapter in our lives.

I can’t believe I started this blog one year ago today. In the past year, a lot has happened in my life that I am grateful for. I started this blog with the intention of writing for myself and keeping up with my creative side. In the year since, I’ve “met” a lot of fantastic bloggers out there, shared ideas, participated in many link-ups and even some blog swaps.
More importantly, I have gained more confidence in myself and my writing and started to really actively pursue my goals. I’ve already had some success and I believe it can only get better from here. I have also held myself accountable to a list of goals I made for 2012 that I am still working on and very excited about.
As I head into the second year of my blogging life, I continually look forward to doing more of the same and watching where this journey may take me.
This week I am coveting decorative boxes. I was in C. Wonder the other day and they had some really nice ones that can be stacked as part of a design tableau. I can picture variations of these on my coffee table, topped off with a candle or a single flower in a shallow glass vase. What types of decorative objects do you have/want in your space?

This past weekend marked the kickoff of the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. I always love going to this annual sale – all of the new fall collections are on display and discounted for a limited time.
The fall is my favorite time of year, so I love seeing what I’ll be wearing in just a few short months. I went to Nordstrom’s on Saturday and got a couple of great items at the sale.
This tee from Painted Threads is light and comfy and would look great paired with some black leggings or a pair of skinny jeans. Layer with a long cardigan and some boots and you have the perfect fall outfit. And at only $20, on sale from $30, it was a steal! I’ve been looking for a new pair of black maryjane pumps for some time. I love how versatile they are – you can dress them up or dress them down. I found these really cute Vince Camuto ones. They also come in royal blue and purple but I felt the black was more universal. And at $80 on sale from $130, you can’t beat it!
The Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is on now through August 6. Happy shopping!

Instead of doing my typical Five for Friday, I thought I’d just relish in the fact that I have nothing planned to do this weekend! After last weekend’s whirlwind of activities, I am relishing in the fact that my days are free and wide open.
The Husband is heading up to Boston to see a Red Sox game tonight, so my big plan is to check out this new fancy cupcake place after work, get some takeout, light a candle and watch Say Yes to the Dress!
Tomorrow morning will be filled with some leisurely shopping and then my parents are coming by for lunch. I have no plans whatsoever for Sunday – lounging poolside anyone?
Have a great weekend!

This week I thought I’d move into the living room and talk about built-in shelving. I love the look of these. They make a bold statement and don’t take up additional room like standing bookshelves.
I think built-ins can help give character to a room and I hope to have these in our future home (in some capacity). These are some of my favorite examples of built-ins:
Do you like the look of built-ins?

We decided to take a trip back in time this past weekend and visited the Rockefeller estate, Kykuit located in New York’s Hudson Valley. This place is absolutely stunning with amazing gardens containing priceless art sculptures, an ornate mansion and breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Palisades.
John D. Rockefeller had Kykuit built in the early 1900’s. He raised his family here and his grandson Nelson Rockefeller subsequently raised his here as well. The home is now part of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and tours are offered there through half of the year.
We weren’t able to take photos inside but these are some that I found online. Can you imagine waking up there everyday?
The art gallery is really cool too – there is a lot of modern art including works by Andy Warhol and Picasso. There are even these massive tapestries painstakingly created in the style of many of Picasso’s famous paintings.
It’s always fun to escape to another time and place and visiting sites such as this are always a real treat for the senses.
