Fun with Cooking

I don’t usually blog about recipes, but I wanted to share a quick and easy one that I (sort of) made up last night. We had chicken tenders on hand, so I figured I would bread and bake them, but realized we were out of eggs. Feeling lazy, I didn’t want to go to the store to buy some, so I improvised. I present to you:

Baked Honey Mustard Chicken Tenders

1 lb. chicken tenders

3/4 cup flour

1/2 cup bread crumbs

1/2 tsp paprika

3 tbsp mustard

3 tbsp honey

Splash of milk

Preheat oven to 450. Combine flour, bread crumbs and paprika in a bowl and set aside. Combine mustard, honey and milk in a separate bowl. Dip chicken in mustard mixture then dredge in flour mixture. Place on a non-stick baking sheet and drizzle with a bit of olive oil. Bake for 10 minutes, flip chicken over and bake another 10 minutes.

Of course I forgot to take a picture, but it looks something like this:

You can use whatever mustard you like. I’m a fan of Trader Joe’s Sweet & Hot Mustard.

Serve and enjoy!

Five for Friday

Happy Friday! Where are these weeks going? April is flying by – which is so crazy to me! Anyway, I wanted to celebrate the fact that it’s Friday with my Five for Friday countdown. This week I’m looking forward to the following:

A Relaxing Evening

Between myself and The Husband, one of us was out doing something every night this week. So tonight I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening in complete with homemade pizza and catching up on our DVR.

(Another) Brunch in NYC

Just call me one of the ladies who brunch! I’m meeting up with another friend this weekend for brunch at The Brooklyneer and dessert at Doughnut Plant – yum!

Dwell Studio Sample Sale

I just stumbled upon this sale last week and Sunday is the last day. I’d like to go back and see if some of the items I didn’t end up buying are still there.

Mom Meet-ups

I’m attending 2 outdoor mom get-togethers this week. Hoping the weather is nice and Lady M corporates!

Junior League Spring Fundraiser

I’m on the spring fundraiser committee for my Junior League and the party is next Friday. I even convinced The Husband to go! It’s going to be a fun night complete with entertainment, silent auction and oh yeah, open bar. 😉

Scenes from New York

Happy Monday! I had a great weekend – hope you did too. I spent Saturday in NYC where I met up with a friend for brunch, so I thought I’d do a photo essay of my Manhattan stroll. The weather was a bit chilly and overcast, but that’s how I like it. Nothing beats strolling down a quiet city street in the early morning with some clouds rolling above.

I started out in my old neighborhood, the Upper East Side.

Spring has sprung!

Great quote I found outside of a church on 86th street.

I FINALLY stopped by Laduree. Every time I try to go, there’s a huge line outside, but luckily not at 10:30 in the morning. I haven’t had a Laduree macaron since I was in Paris.

I got Pistachio, Strawberry and Lime-Basil macarons

I made my way down to SoHo where I met my friend for brunch at David Burke Kitchen.

Construction on the Freedom Tower

The weather was not as nice as anticipated so I had to stop and buy a scarf from a street vendor but it worked out since I had wanted one with skulls for a while now.

After brunch I just happened upon a Dwell Studio sample sale and scored some great toys for Lady M!

My final stop was to the Little Cupcake Bakeshop where I picked up some treats for myself and The Husband.

All in all it was a fantastic day in the city!

Sandal Season is (Almost) Here!

We have been having some really beautiful weather in NY this week. It’s been sunny and warm – hitting 80 yesterday! Therefore, I really, REALLY need a pedicure soon – especially so I can start wearing sandals!

Here are a few polish colors and sandal styles I think would be perfect for S/S13.

Essie’s In the Cab-ana

A lovely shade of aqua blue. Sort of Tiffany-esque, no? This beachy blue would look great with a pair of cream sandals, like this Michael Kors pair.

I’m always a sucker for pink – especially a bright, neon color which I feel I can get away with more as a pedicure.

Essie’s Off the Shoulder is the perfect hot pink and would pop against any color. But it would especially look great against  the stark contrast of black and white. These Lucky Brand sandals encompass the best of both worlds and the pattern is really eye-catching.

Butter London’s Bossy Boots is a creamy pistachio color – perfect to pair with a pair of gold sandals.

s1414358-main-heroI think these Kate Spade flats provide the perfect shimmer of gold to go with this lovely matte color.

What is your go-to pedicure/sandal combo?

Brooklyn Bound at Barclays

Well, we’ve made it to another Monday morning – hope you’re having a good one. I’m linking up with Join the Gossip for today’s Monday Morning Gossip.

This weekend was busy but a lot of fun. On Saturday night, The Husband and I finally made it out to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. I bought him Nets tickets for his birthday and the game was Saturday night. The Center is very nice and very easy to get to by public transportation.

We got there early so we could walk around. One of his favorite parts was the original flagpole from Ebbets Field. I thought the Calvin Klein VIP entrance was funny myself.

Inside there are so many food choices from Brooklyn Burger, Fatty Cue, Calexico and so much more. I settled on L&B Spumoni Gardens grandma pizza which was pretty tasty. The game was good – the Nets won, even though it was touch and go for a while.

We had a great time and I’m looking forward to heading back to Barclays soon.

The Ultimate Blog Party

Happy Friday! Today I am joining up with 5 Minutes for Mom for the Ultimate Blog Party link-up. It’s a great way to meet new bloggers. So, for those that don’t know me, here’s a little bit about myself.

My name is Christine and I’ve had my blog for almost 2 years. I live in the suburbs of New York City, but having lived in Manhattan for almost 10 years, I consider myself a true city girl at heart. In August The Husband and I will celebrate our 3 year anniversary and this past December, we welcomed our first child – Lady M as I like to call her.

I stay at home with her but am also a freelance writer specializing in public relations as well as articles covering lifestyle topics, design, fashion, home, travel, etc. I am also the Media Chair of my local Junior League, which keeps me busy. I’m on Twitter and Instagram and you can find me at both places under FancyFunction.

In my spare time I love to read, find ways to re-decorate, shop and take walks discovering new places. I also play the violin in a Manhattan orchestra. And I love coffee (and candy!) Nice to “meet” you and hope you say hello!
