Happy Halloween! This past week has been filled with parties, festivals and parades – and we haven’t even gone Trick-or-Treating yet! We plan to take Lady M (who will be dressed as a strawberry) around our complex later today, just to walk around and say hello. No candy please 😉
In honor of Halloween (and also “just because”) I’ve been making some treats myself. I’ve been experimenting a lot more with baking recently. I can’t say I love the act of baking, but I like to try new recipes and I also prefer homemade things instead of box mixes, as I figure anything that’s out there, I can just make almost as easily myself.
Last week I tried two new cookie recipes. The first is called Tea’s Cookies and you can find the recipe here. They came out really well and since I made so many, I froze half and found they also freeze well. Basically, you can add whatever you like. If you’re not a fan of dried apricots, try dried cranberries or golden raisins. Don’t love white chocolate chips? Use butterscotch or peanut butter chips. Since I didn’t have almonds, I used candied walnuts from Trader Joe’s that I had on hand.
We went to a Halloween party last week so I decided to try this recipe for Hot Cocoa Cookies. They were fairly easy to make. Instead of crushed candy canes, I added brown and orange Reece’s Pieces to the tops to make them festive. Again, play with the toppings and use what you like best.
I’m gearing up to make cakes for Lady M’s birthday in a little over a month. Wish me luck! 😉 And since today’s the day, we’re all ready for our Trick or Treaters!
