When we first looked at our house as a potential candidate, I noticed it had a cute archway set over the stairs in the stone wall. I thought it was really charming but in major need of some TLC. The whole thing was rusted and looked like it had been there since the house was built in 1957. But I knew I wanted to keep it nonetheless.
Charming but in need of some love
The rusting was pretty bad
We moved in late summer so I didn’t have a chance to work on it. Then I was pregnant last summer and not feeling well, so it was neglected for yet another season. I finally decided to tackle it this year.
Armed with two cans of flat white spray paint, I set to work on re-beautifying this lovely arch. Little did I know, I’d need two more cans to finish the job. So off to the store I went to complete my project.
Also happy to see the herb and vegetable garden thriving in the background
It’s all in the details
I added some solar-operated twinkle lights to up the charm factor – great for those nights spent roasting marshmallows in the fire pit.
It’s not perfect but I’m happy with the outcome. I’d like to think I’ve given it a new life.
Do you ever feel like there’s a space in your house you just don’t know what to do with? That’s how I’m feeling right now about one corner of our master bedroom. It’s a big room but I find there’s this one area of wasted space that’s too small to do much with since it sits right in between two closets.
My idea is to create a small (read: cozy) reading nook where I can go to sit and relax. It’s only large enough to fit a chair and side table but really, what more do you need? Add in a comfy throw, pretty table lamp and some candles and you’re all set! Here are some of the spaces that I’m finding inspiring. You’ll have to check back in a bit to see the final reveal!
The weather in NY is finally getting warm and lovely (here’s hoping it stays like this!) With all of this beautiful weather, it’s made me realize one thing – I need new summer clothes! 😉
But seriously, I am on the hunt for a few new pieces that I think will help make my warm-weather wardrobe complete. In no particular order here are a few of the pieces I’m currently coveting:
I feel like I’ve been trying to find the perfect one for a few years now with no luck! This Gap dress may do the trick (and it’s on sale now too!)
White flat sandals
Another elusive find for me. I had a fantastic DKNY pair years ago and I was so sad when I had to finally admit they were falling apart and toss them. I haven’t found a pair to live up to them since. But here are some that may fit the bill.
I feel like you can never have too many of these. They’re perfect to wear with jeans or skirts and so easy to layer with a lightweight cardigan when the weather cools down. I’d love some new tops with bright pops of color and bold patterns.
What items do you want to add to your summer wardrobe?
