Gucci Gucci

If I had to pinpoint it, I’d say my love of vintage things started with a bag. Oh, not just any bag but a vintage Gucci doctor bag with blue and red striping.

To be honest, I probably first saw this bag worn by Carrie Bradshaw and teenage me thought, “I must have this.” But I thought about and researched it for a long time before finally making my purchase.

I loved wearing this bag around town. But then as time went on, for some reason, it got banished to the back of my closet. And I kind of forgot about it for a while (two kids will do that to ya!)

But then I rediscovered it last summer and I’m so happy I did. It brings back a lot of memories of my early years in NYC – college, first job, first apartment, etc. It was also my first foray into buying vintage items, and I haven’t looked back! Maybe one day my daughter will take an interest and want to borrow my bag, and then I can tell her of its past (and in turn, mine). That’s the beauty of vintage – what goes around, comes back around – and then some.

Beauty Buzzing

I know I’ve done a round-up like this before, but I wanted to share some of my favorite beauty items I just can’t live without! Taking good care of your skin is so important, especially in the winter, and many of these items are crucial for me and my dry, sensitive skin! So without further ado, here are just a few of my faves. Feel free to share yours too – I always love hearing about new beauty reccos!

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Cream

This has been a must-have of mine since college. I have very sensitive skin and the winter cold just makes it so dry. This lightweight, fragrance-free formulation is gentle enough for my skin yet powerful enough to quench it. I love this stuff!

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1

Another college fav! I keep one in my bag, at home and always have an extra just in case. The balm is light, smooth and not at all sticky. It moisturizes and works great worn under gloss or just by itself.

The Body Shop Elderflower Eye Gel
Let’s face it – sometimes we get bags under our eyes. This gel contains elderflower which helps cool the eye area as well as diminish the bags. Super helpful as a very busy, sleep-deprived mom!

Living Proof Prime Style Extender
I have incredibly thick, coarse hair and am always looking for that perfect smoothing cream. I think I may have found it. I use a small amount of this on damp hair before blowing straight and it makes my hair feel smooth, sleek and manageable.

Benefit Boiing
A creamy concealer is key (see – undereye bags)! Sometimes there are dark circles to accompany the bags. This goes on with a quick swipe and hides all – no one has to know!

Smith and Cult Lip Gloss in Now Kith
My new go-to gloss! I love this rosy neutral that glides on easily and is the perfect glossy shade.

Chic Winter Style

We are officially in the thick of a cold, cold winter. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be fashionable while we’re trying to keep warm, right? Here are some of my picks for staying cozy without giving up style.

J. Crew Chateau Parka

OK, so it seems everyone and their mother has this coat, but there’s a good reason – it’s a great coat! Not only is it cute, but it also keeps you warm without the bulk. And I for one am so sick of those black puffy coats anyway! It comes in a ton of color options too. One word of advice – go one size down from your usual size as it’s quite roomy.

Infinity Scarf

Another ubiquitous trend but a necessity. A colorful scarf can make a neutral coat pop! I pair my gray coat with a blue/orange knitted scarf and receive so many compliments – another boost to the system during the cold winter months!

Finally, we all need a stylish and warm pair of boots. And while I am guilty of wearing that pair, there are so many other good choices out there.
How do you keep your sense of style in the cold?

Summer Wardrobe Essentials

The weather in NY is finally getting warm and lovely (here’s hoping it stays like this!) With all of this beautiful weather, it’s made me realize one thing – I need new summer clothes! 😉

But seriously, I am on the hunt for a few new pieces that I think will help make my warm-weather wardrobe complete. In no particular order here are a few of the pieces I’m currently coveting:

Chambray dress

I feel like I’ve been trying to find the perfect one for a few years now with no luck! This Gap dress may do the trick (and it’s on sale now too!)

White flat sandals

Another elusive find for me. I had a fantastic DKNY pair years ago and I was so sad when I had to finally admit they were falling apart and toss them. I haven’t found a pair to live up to them since. But here are some that may fit the bill.

Sleeveless tops

I feel like you can never have too many of these. They’re perfect to wear with jeans or skirts and so easy to layer with a lightweight cardigan when the weather cools down. I’d love some new tops with bright pops of color and bold patterns.

The Met Gala

Tonight, all of the pretty people will emerge through the rain and gloom to attend one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year – the Met Gala.

This year’s event, which benefits the Met’s Costume Institute will reflect on its new exhibit Manus x Machina – Fashion in an Age of Technology.

Some memorable galas in recent past celebrated fashions influenced by China and punk. What will everyone be wearing tonight? Well since it’s all about technology, the possibilities are endless. Don’t you wish you had a ticket???

A Pineapple for Me

One of the biggest trends in fashion and home I’m seeing right now is the use of pineapples. Everything from t-shirts and dresses, tabletop decor, art prints and more have colorful pineapples all over them. And this is one trend I can get behind because I’ve loved pineapples for quite a while.

Don’t get me wrong, obviously they’re delicious to eat (I think I ate one per week during my last pregnancy!), but they’re also a really fun and summery way to liven up an outfit or home space.  I remember my grandparents had a small brass pineapple on a side table in their living room, which is where I guess my love first started. When The Husband and I visited Charleston, SC two summers ago, I learned that the pineapple is a symbol of welcoming which is why the motif can be seen at so many home entrances all over the city.

I liked this idea so much that I added a cute pineapple print into my living room’s gallery wall and I really like how it turned out. So, if you want to feel fun and festive, might I suggest adding some pineapples into your life! Here are a few items that I’m currently loving.

Dress, Gold & white figurine, Swimsuit, Candle

Fall Foward into Fashion

New York Fashion Week recently wrapped up and there were lots of trends that emerged. I’m not one to follow trends that intently but if I find something I like, I go with it. Here are some favorite looks that I’m coveting for next Fall.

Recently Updated9

Pale pinks and muted tones are on the forecast for Fall. I think this soft color palette works well for cold weather, especially a warm cashmere sweater, long coat or even a leather bag in a blush tone.

Bold Reds

I don’t wear red that often, but always feel like I should add some more to my wardrobe. I think a red wool skirt paired with a neutral top and stilettos or a fun red knit sweater with a great pair of jeans would be my way to go.

Chunky Knits

I’m a sucker for a chunky, cozy sweater so this is definitely a trend I can get behind.

What’s on your must-have list for Fall?
