Back to School

If you’re anything like me, back-to-school time makes you a bit giddy. It’s not because the kids are going back to school (well, maybe a little) but it’s the feeling that you can have a fresh start, an organizational overhaul and get back into a routine.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve LOVED having the husband home all summer – it’s been a ton of fun. But I’m also looking forward to getting back into the swing of preschool, dance class, play dates and the like. And on a personal level, I’m looking forward to doing more writing work and organizing myself better.

Here are some of my must-have items for creating a personal office space that’s both functional and a little bit fancy. Sound familiar? 😉

Pineapple pencil holder, Moleskine notebooks, File folders, Wall calendar, Coffee mug, Desk lamp, Storage boxes, Sticky notes

Spruce Up Your Winter Look

Sometimes it’s hard to get yourself going on a cold winter morning. But the cold weather is no excuse to not look and feel good! It’s easy to throw on a pair of leggings and hoodie and call it a day (especially if you work/stay home). But with just a bit of effort, you can create an easy and stylish look in just a few minutes extra than it would take to get your sweats on! Here are some items I’m loving right now for that chic and polished look.

I’m a big fan of Bare Escentuals Buxom eye shadow. It’s a creamy, creaseless shadow that has a bit of shimmer to give it that extra pop. Most days I just put on some eyeliner, Buxom in Collie (a neutral shimmer) and a little lip gloss and I’m off! The best thing is, the company donates a portion of sales to Canine Companions for Independence. Look good while doing good!

The Smashbox Wondervision eye set in Flash is fun when I’m looking for a bit more drama. The colors are rich and stay on  very well.

The Husband makes fun of me because he says I’m constantly doing my nails. But I like to change them up! I do like dark, rich colors for Winter but I’m also a fan of bright pops mixed in.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I love chunky, oversized sweaters in the winter. They’re just so cozy! Pair them with some skinny jeans, boots and a great bag and you’re good to go!

A Promise to Myself

It’s the beginning of a new year and with that, I’ve made some promises to myself that I’m going to try my best to keep. One of them is to blog on a more regular basis. I’m not saying I’m going to have a post up every single day, but I’m vowing to be more consistent with it than I am now.

Let’s face it, we’re all very busy and some things take precedent over others. But if something is really important to you, you’ll honor your commitments to keep at it. And that is writing/blogging for me. Here’s just a bit of inspiration to help keep me in line.  🙂

This home office seen on The Everygirl is definitely inspiring

Sandal Season is (Almost) Here!

We have been having some really beautiful weather in NY this week. It’s been sunny and warm – hitting 80 yesterday! Therefore, I really, REALLY need a pedicure soon – especially so I can start wearing sandals!

Here are a few polish colors and sandal styles I think would be perfect for S/S13.

Essie’s In the Cab-ana

A lovely shade of aqua blue. Sort of Tiffany-esque, no? This beachy blue would look great with a pair of cream sandals, like this Michael Kors pair.

I’m always a sucker for pink – especially a bright, neon color which I feel I can get away with more as a pedicure.

Essie’s Off the Shoulder is the perfect hot pink and would pop against any color. But it would especially look great against  the stark contrast of black and white. These Lucky Brand sandals encompass the best of both worlds and the pattern is really eye-catching.

Butter London’s Bossy Boots is a creamy pistachio color – perfect to pair with a pair of gold sandals.

What is your go-to pedicure/sandal combo?

Things We Love

The ladies behind Kate Spade are out with a new book called Kate Spade New York: Things We Love. It’s a book celebrating the 20th anniversary of the brand and features inspiration from the past two decades.

I can’t believe Kate Spade has been around for 20 years. I remember those first fabric bags with the small black label. Now the brand has evolved into a true lifestyle brand. I love their mix of old and new, whimsy and glamour. This book will surely be finding a place on my coffee table very soon.

Remember these?

Happy anniversary and here’s to another 20 years!

The Nursery

I am just a few days out from my due date now! I can’t believe how close we are. With that being said, I wanted to share some pics of the nursery we put together. We were able to complete most of it during Hurricane Sandy. I’m very happy with how it turned out. I think it’s a calm and soothing space, appropriate for a baby but not too “babyish.” The only items missing are a wooden wall initial and monogrammed plate from C. Wonder as the baby’s name is still a surprise!

Some of the items include:

Paint – Behr’s Smoked Oyster

Crib skirt – Babylovin (Etsy)

Window valance – TaylorMarieStudio (Etsy)

White elephant – Kate Spade

Christmas stocking – Kohls

If you’d like to know the origin of any other items, please just let me know!

Modern and Chic

I’ve been working on ideas for the nursery, and my vision is something that I feel is both modern and shabby-chic at the same time. Is that even possible? I think so!

Here are some of the pieces I believe could work, mixed in with some items I already plan on using in the space. You’ll find out what I’ve actually used once I do the big reveal! But trust me, that won’t happen for a while as the room is still being used as a holding ground for baby clothes, diapers, guitars, books, you name it!
